The mission of the Miss & Ms. Black California USA Scholarship and Grant Program is to identify, develop and promote leadership among women of color ages 18-36.  The mission is served by intensive contestant development and by operating as the fastest growing provider of academic scholarships and business grants in the state of California.

The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition is presented by The HerShe Group, a non-profit organization housing several different visions that all have the growth and development of women as the common denominator and primary goal.  The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition is the most recognized entity to date among the Group. 

The HerShe Group & The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Scholarship & Grant Program was founded in 1999 by Kenadie Cobbin.  The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

• Launch:  In July 2000, The HerShe Group presents their first Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition at the Long Beach Convention Center.
• Past and present sponsors include KKBT 100.3 The BEAT, Network Commerce, Inc., Magic Johnson Foundation, American Express, Microsoft, Eddie & Nicole Murphy, Wells Fargo Bank and more.
• Celebrities: The competition is a star-studded event complete with celebrity judges, performers, hosts and honored guests.  Past celebrity participants include Tommy Davidson, Michael Colyar, Shaquille O’Neal, Randy Jackson, Kareem Rush, Howard Hewett, Jesse Powell, Al B. Sure, John Salley, Shirley Strawberry, Eric Dickerson, Richard Gant and more! 
• Past Miss Queens:  Jill Bowlds (2001), Charla Baker (2002), Venus Manuel (2003), Michelle Slaybaugh (2004).  Miss Queens go on to compete in the newly reorganized Miss Black USA Competition. 
• Past Ms. Queens:  D’Valarie Travis (2001), Jenelle Randall & Rhonda Roquemore (2002), Tracy Broughton (2003), LaTasha King (2004).
