When did the Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition begin?
The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition was founded in 1999 by Erica Kenadie Cobbin. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Recently, Miss Black California USA became the official preliminary of the newly reorganized Miss Black USA Competition. The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition is presented by The HerShe Group, a non-profit organization housing several different visions that all have the growth and development of women as the common denominator and primary goal. The Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition is the most recognized entity to date among the Group.

What is a Platform?
The platform concept requires each contestant to choose an issue about which she cares deeply and that is of relevance to our community. Once chosen, the reigning titleholders use their stature to address community service organizations, business and civic leaders, the media and others about their platform issues. Since 1999, Miss & Ms. Black California USA titleholders and contestants have appeared at many public speaking engagements and charitable events to generate awareness for a variety of causes, including foster care, people with disabilities, self-esteem, homelessness, HIV/AIDS prevention, domestic violence, diabetes awareness, character education, literacy, cardiovascular disease, economic empowerment, etc.

What does Miss & Ms. Black California USA do after she is selected?
After Miss & Ms. Black California USA is selected, she embarks on a year-long speaking and appearance tour. The Queens address diverse audiences, increasing awareness and promoting their chosen platform.

How old do I have to be to compete in the Miss & Ms. Black California USA system?
Miss Contestants must be between the ages of 18-26. Ms. Contestants must be from 27-36 years of age. For more information on becoming a contestant, click here.

Can I represent my state at the national Miss Black USA Competition?
To become Miss Black USA, a contestant must first win a state competition, a process requiring personal commitment, hard work and talent. For more information, visit missblackusa.org.

Is there an entry fee to compete in the Miss & Ms. Black California USA Competition?

What are the competition categories?
Competition categories includes Personal Interview at 30%; Artistic Expression (Talent) at 20%; Evening Wear at 10%; Lifestyle and Fitness for Miss Contestants and Model Wear for Ms. Contestants at 15% and Public Speaking at 15%, Leadership 10%.
